MOGA Essaouira 2026: the practical guide to your stay
By Mogador Conciergerie · 29 August 2026 · 34 min read

This guide brings together only information verified at source. Every figure comes with a link to the official source that publishes it. Where a piece of information has not been officially published, we say so in black and white rather than make it up: you will find a list of these points at the end of the article.
An independent guide. Mogador Conciergerie is a private concierge service based in Essaouira. We are not organisers, partners or official resellers of the festival. This guide is a service we offer travellers, with nothing in return.
The essentials before you go
- When: from Wednesday 30 September to Sunday 4 October 2026.
- Two parts: MOGA OFF, free, on 30 September and 1 October, at several venues around town. MOGA IN, ticketed, from 2 to 4 October.
- Where: MOGA IN takes place at the Hôtel Le Golf d’Essaouira & Spa, Domaine Mogador, Diabat 44000.
- MOGA IN hours: 2pm to 3am, every day.
- Minimum age: 18.
- Tickets: from 650 MAD for entry before 5pm, 800 MAD for a full day, 1,900 MAD for the 3-day pass and 4,500 MAD for the VIP 3-day pass. Group packs for 4 to 6 people are also available.
- The site is 5.6 km from the medina along the coast road, about 9 minutes, and up to 30 when the festival lets out.
- No official shuttle has been announced between the town and the site. This is the point to plan for before anything else.
- No coming and going: once you are in, you stay until the end. Eat beforehand.
- Payment in cash dirhams or by top-up wristband, no bank cards at the stalls, no cash machine in Diabat.
- When you leave, walk 200 to 300 metres up the road before looking for a taxi. At the roundabout, the wait can stretch to an hour.
- No Moroccan public holiday falls between 28 September and 8 October 2026.
- No visa needed for French, British and American nationals, for stays of up to 90 days.
Where to stay during the festival. The town is almost fully booked on these dates. We keep an up-to-date list of our villas and flats that are still free, with the number of guests and the distance to the estate, on a dedicated page: see available accommodation.
The festival: what has been officially published
Two events, two approaches
The festival’s official text, distributed through Resident Advisor, one of its official resellers, makes a clear distinction between two parts:
MOGA OFF: from Wednesday 30 September to 1 October, several venues, free entry. MOGA IN: from 2pm to 3am, Friday 2 to Sunday 4 October, Hôtel Le Golf d’Essaouira & Spa, ticket required.
Source: the event’s official page on Resident Advisor, consulted on 29 August 2026.
MOGA OFF is free. The exact venues for the 2026 edition have not yet been published: the festival only announces ‘several venues’ in town. In 2025, the OFF spread across some thirty venues in central Essaouira, but there is no guarantee the 2026 map will be the same. Keep an eye on the official Instagram account @mogafestival in the days beforehand.
MOGA IN is ticketed and held on a single site, in Diabat, south of Essaouira. 2026 is the festival’s tenth edition.
Opening hours
2pm to 3am. These are the hours published by the festival itself for MOGA IN. You will find different times elsewhere, notably 4pm or 4am: these are ticketing-platform metadata describing the overall window of the event, not the opening hours. Day-by-day hours and set times have not been published so far.
Minimum age
18. This is the age stated by iTicket.ma, an official reseller, and confirmed by a second official reseller, DICE. Be wary, however, of the festival’s Skiddle page: although it is listed among the official partners, it has not been updated and gives a minimum age of 6, as well as a venue that is no longer correct. Do not rely on it if you are travelling with children.
Whether you must show ID at the entrance has not been officially specified. Bring your passport to be safe.
Tickets: the seven official resellers
The festival’s official website lists exactly seven ticketing partners:
- Ticket.ma: ticket.ma
- Resident Advisor: ra.co
- DICE: dice.fm
- Xceed: xceed.me
- Skiddle: skiddle.com
- iTicket: iticket.ma
- Teskerti: teskerti.tn
The festival’s own box office runs through Tidar, which the official website links to.
Note: several other platforms sell tickets for this festival without appearing on this official list. They are not necessarily fraudulent, but if you want peace of mind, buy from the festival’s Tidar box office or from one of the seven links above.
Prices
Prices vary by reseller and currency. The full price list, with the remaining stock category by category, is published by the festival’s official box office. Here are the prices recorded on 29 August 2026:
- Entry before 5pm, Friday, Saturday or Sunday: 650 MAD.
- 1-day pass: from 800 MAD.
- 3-day pass: 1,900 MAD (second release; the first release at 1,800 MAD has sold out).
- VIP 3-day pass: 4,500 MAD.
- Group packs for 4 to 6 people, and VIP upgrades to add to a pass you have already bought.
- DICE lists ‘from €72.76’.
The available categories are: 1-day pass, 2-day pass, 3-day pass, VIP packages, a reduced price for entry before 5pm, group packs for 4 to 6 people, and ‘VIP upgrades’ added on to a pass you have already bought. We do not publish a dirham-to-euro conversion table: the price ranges shown by the various resellers do not match exactly, and an approximate table would mislead you. Check the price with whichever reseller you choose.
As of 29 August 2026, the first-release 3-day pass (1,800 MAD) and the three first-release 3-day group packs had already sold out, and the second release of the 3-day pass was on sale at 1,900 MAD. The other categories were still available, some with low stock. Prices rise as the event draws closer: buy early.

On site: what the festival does not publish, and how to prepare
It needs saying plainly, because it is unusual and it changes how you plan your day: the festival publishes no site rules. We searched the official website, its Essaouira subdomain, the ticketing page, the credits page and the pages of the seven official resellers. There is no practical information page and no FAQ. Nowhere is there anything published on:
- what you can bring in, in particular bags, bottles and cameras;
- which payment methods are accepted on site: cash, card, cashless wristband;
- whether there is a cloakroom or left-luggage;
- whether camping is possible;
- whether you must show ID at the entrance.
What we can tell you, however, is what happened in previous years.
Observed on site
What follows does not come from an official source: these are our own observations, and those of our clients, from previous editions. We share them because nobody else writes them down and they make a real difference to an evening. The organisers may of course change their rules in 2026.
Payment on site is in cash dirhams, or by wristband. At previous editions, you paid at the various stalls either in Moroccan cash or with credit loaded onto a wristband, which could be topped up online before the event. No bank cards at the stalls. Two practical consequences: load your wristband before you set off if the festival offers it again, and bring dirhams in cash. There is no cash machine in Diabat; they are in town.
You cannot leave and come back. Once you are in, you stay. Exits followed by re-entry were not allowed, barring exceptional cases of which we have no example. This is the rule that shapes the whole day: you go in for the duration, until 3am. You will not be able to pop back to town for dinner and return. Eat before you leave, and take everything you will need with you.
The rest is basic common sense, given that no rules have been published:
- Travel light. With no cloakroom announced, whatever you bring stays with you until the end of the night.
- Bring a jacket. October nights on the Atlantic coast are cool and windy, nothing like a night in Marrakech.
- Bring your passport and a power bank.
For a specific question, write to contact@mogafestival.com, the only address the organisers publish, and keep an eye on the official Instagram account @mogafestival in the week beforehand.

Getting to Essaouira
By air, direct to Essaouira
Essaouira-Mogador airport (IATA code ESU, ICAO code GMMI) lies 18 km south-south-east of the town, roughly a 30-minute drive from the medina.
This 18 km distance is the one published in the official ONDA aeronautical documentation, and it matches the road calculation. You will sometimes see 15 or 16 km elsewhere, including on other ONDA pages: that is inaccurate.
It is a small airport: a 3,000 m² terminal, capacity for 300,000 passengers a year, two aircraft stands. Source: ONDA.
Airlines serving ESU. ONDA’s ‘Airline Guide’ page lists only Transavia, Ryanair and Arkia: it is out of date. Four airlines serve Essaouira in autumn 2026: – Transavia, from Paris-Orly, a flight of about 3 hours 35 minutes. Source: Transavia. – Ryanair, from Brussels-Charleroi. Source: Brussels-Charleroi airport. – easyJet, from Bordeaux and Lyon, two flights a week from each city. – Vueling, from Barcelona and Seville.
Ryanair also advertises routes from London Stansted, Marseille, Paris-Beauvais, Madrid, Weeze and Tangier. The exact flight schedule for the period from 30 September to 5 October 2026 has not been published: check directly on the airlines’ websites. No direct Casablanca to Essaouira flight appears on the Royal Air Maroc website for this period.
Airport parking, official ONDA rates: free for up to 10 minutes, 6 DH for 1 hour, 22 DH for 5 to 12 hours, 33 DH for 12 to 24 hours. Source: ONDA.
Taxis from the airport. ONDA states that ‘the recommended fare is 150 DH per journey between the airport and the town of Essaouira’. Source: ONDA. Note the word recommended: it is not a regulated fare, and it is negotiated before you get in.
By air via Marrakech
This is the most common option, as Marrakech-Menara is served by far more airlines.
Marrakech-Menara (RAK) to Essaouira: 184.8 km, about 2 hours 42 minutes by road in free-flowing traffic. Central Marrakech to Essaouira: 183.7 km, about 2 hours 41 minutes.
These distances and times are calculated by the OpenStreetMap routing engine, car profile, excluding traffic and stops. A coach that makes stops will take noticeably longer.
From Agadir and Casablanca
- Agadir to Essaouira: 174.8 km, about 2 hours 52 minutes.
- Casablanca to Essaouira: 361.5 km, about 4 hours 38 minutes.
By coach
Two national operators serve Essaouira from Marrakech, Agadir, Casablanca and El Jadida: CTM and Supratours, a subsidiary of ONCF.
We deliberately publish no bus fares or timetables. Actual prices and times can only be found in these operators’ booking engines, and the descriptive pages on the CTM website contradict one another, including journey times that are physically impossible. Book directly:
- CTM: booking.ctm.ma and ctm.ma. Customer service: +212 5 21 64 06 40.
- Supratours (ONCF): supratours.ma.
CTM luggage, according to the official terms and conditions: two hold bags of up to 20 kg each, with combined dimensions under 170 cm, plus one cabin bag of 40 × 50 × 16 cm. Arrive 30 minutes before departure if you have hold luggage, 15 minutes otherwise. The standard ticket is non-refundable unless you take the CTM Flex option at the time of purchase.
By hire car
Three international hire companies have a desk at Essaouira airport.
- Hertz: desk in the terminal, open 7 days a week, out-of-hours collection possible if you give your flight number. Telephone +212 8 02 00 77 78. Official page.
- Avis: Essaouira airport, open 7 days a week from 7am to 11pm. Telephone +212 522 66 72 72. Official page.
- Europcar: desk at the airport, official page. Opening hours and telephone number not published online.
None of these companies publishes firm prices: the prices shown are indicative averages that vary with the season and the length of hire. We do not reproduce them here.
Getting around, and above all getting back from Diabat at night
This is the most important question of your stay. Plan for it before you buy your ticket.
The actual distance
From the medina of Essaouira to the festival site: 5.6 km along the coast road, about 9 minutes. You follow the whole bay on the P2201, cross the bridge over the Oued Ksob and arrive in Diabat. The road is surfaced and fine to drive at night: your GPS will take you straight there.
Observed on site
Those 9 minutes are a journey time on an empty road. When the festival lets out and several thousand people leave at once, allow up to 30 minutes, and more if you get caught in the jams at the roundabout. This is what we observed at previous editions, not an official figure.
Six kilometres is not far by car. But it is a road outside the built-up area, without continuous lighting, and not one you walk at three in the morning.
No official shuttle has been announced
We looked hard, and we would rather be clear: no shuttle between Essaouira and the festival site is mentioned in any official source. On 29 August 2026 we checked the festival website and its Essaouira subdomain, the ticketing page, the credits page, the pages of the seven official resellers and the page of the official travel partner. The /info, /faq and /lineup pages of the official website do not exist.
This does not prove that no shuttle will exist. It proves that, as of 29 August, none has been announced, so no festival-goer can count on one when planning their stay.
The only transport officially offered is a return airport transfer, included in the packages from the official travel partner FSTVL, which also sells flight + hotel + pass bundles. Prices for these packages are not published online. This is a transfer between the airport and your accommodation, not a shuttle to the festival site.
Leaving the site: what actually happens
Observed on site
What follows comes from no official source: these are our own observations, and those of our clients, from previous editions. It is by far the most useful information in this guide.
The car park is overwhelmed. Cars pile up around the site and end up blocking one another on the way out. If you come by car, do not park as close as you can. A space gained on arrival is paid for with thirty or forty minutes stuck on the way out. Park further away on purpose, even if it means a five-minute walk when you arrive: you will be able to leave whenever you like.
Finding a taxi when you leave can take an hour. Everyone comes out at the same time, the taxis get caught in the same jam as the cars, and the roundabout at the site entrance becomes the worst place in the area to find one.
The smart move: walk 200 to 300 metres up the road, beyond the bottleneck, and pick up your taxi there. You skip the entire queue, and a driver who is not stuck in traffic is more willing to take the fare. Three minutes’ walk can save you an hour.
Taxis
We publish no taxi fare table for Essaouira, and here is why. There is no national taxi tariff in Morocco. Fares are set by order of the governor, at province or prefecture level, and the order that applies to Essaouira is not published anywhere online. Any table you might read elsewhere presenting itself as ‘the official fare’ would therefore be invention or approximation.
The only fare with a source is ONDA’s for the airport run, a ‘recommended’ 150 DH.
In practice: agree the price before you get in, including, and especially, at night.
What we advise you to do
- Arrange your journey back before you leave your accommodation, not at 3am outside the site exit.
- If you are in a group, book a car with driver for the nights you go out, with a meeting point agreed away from the roundabout. Shared between six or eight people, it costs less than a taxi negotiated in a hurry, and it spares you the hour-long wait.
- Do not leave at the exact moment it ends. Leaving twenty minutes before the very end, or on the contrary waiting twenty minutes for the crowd to thin out, completely changes the experience of getting out.
- Keep some cash. The cash machines are in town, not in Diabat, and payment on site is in cash or by wristband.
- Keep some battery. A dead phone at 3am, 5 km from your bed, is the real problem of the night. Bring a power bank.
- Write down the exact address of your accommodation in Arabic and in French on paper, not just on your phone.
If you get stuck, message us. Throughout festival week, our WhatsApp number answers everyone, client or not, free of charge, including at night: an address, a driver, a pharmacy, a table. We live here all year round and we would rather help you than see you have a bad night. Message us on WhatsApp.
Where to stay during MOGA
Choosing a neighbourhood here is not a question of comfort: it is a question of getting home at three in the morning.
The festival changes location partway through
The first two days take place in the streets of Essaouira, with free entry. The last three take place six kilometres away, on a single site, until three in the morning. No neighbourhood puts both halves within walking distance: you have to choose which one to favour, or accept making the drive.
- Wed 30 Sept — What’s on: MOGA OFF, free · Where: In town
- Thu 1 Oct — What’s on: MOGA OFF, free · Where: In town
- Fri 2 Oct — What’s on: MOGA IN, 2pm to 3am · Where: Diabat
- Sat 3 Oct — What’s on: MOGA IN, 2pm to 3am · Where: Diabat
- Sun 4 Oct — What’s on: MOGA IN, 2pm to 3am · Where: Diabat
The exact venues for MOGA OFF 2026 have not yet been published: the festival announces ‘several venues’ in town. In 2025, the OFF spread across some thirty addresses in central Essaouira. There is no guarantee the 2026 map will be the same, but all of them were in town, which is enough to decide where to stay.
The three areas
The medina, 5.6 km from the site, 9 minutes. This is where MOGA OFF takes place, and where you will find the restaurants that stay open late. You live in the heart of town, on foot, and the first two days of the festival happen right under your windows. On the other hand: cars cannot enter within the ramparts, accommodation there is mostly riads with shared walls, and each of the three MOGA IN nights requires a taxi or a driver, including the one at 3am.
Diabat, on site. The festival site is in Diabat itself. It is the only place from which you depend on no one to get home, and it is also the smallest: there is little accommodation and it goes early. Outside the festival there is almost nothing, no shops and no cash machine, and you are a long way from MOGA OFF on the first two days.
Ghazoua, 4.5 km from the site, 6 minutes. Closer to the festival than the medina, which almost nobody realises. Here you will find houses and villas with gardens, quiet and set back from the town. Nothing is within walking distance: you need a vehicle or a driver for everything, including going out to dinner.
- Medina — To the site: 5.6 km, 9 min · MOGA OFF on foot: Yes · The 3am journey home: Taxi or driver, three nights
- Diabat — To the site: On site · MOGA OFF on foot: No · The 3am journey home: Sorted
- Ghazoua — To the site: 4.5 km, 6 min · MOGA OFF on foot: No · The 3am journey home: Short, but a vehicle is essential
From Essaouira-Mogador airport to the festival site: 12.2 km, 14 minutes via the N1. The journey is short, but there is no public transport between the airport and Diabat: arrange your transfer before you land, not as you step off the plane.
How many nights to book
As MOGA IN finishes at 3am in the night from Sunday to Monday, a full stay runs from Wednesday 30 September to Monday 5 October, which is five nights. Leaving on the Sunday means missing the last night; booking an early flight on the Monday morning means not sleeping.
If you are only coming for the ticketed part, three nights are enough, from Friday 2 to Monday 5 October. If you are mainly coming for the town and the free atmosphere, two nights in the medina from 30 September to 2 October cover the whole OFF.
One last useful pointer. With less than three weeks to go before the festival, availability is getting tight in all three areas, whichever option you choose. If you are still looking for somewhere to stay, our team follows availability in the area in real time and can point you in the right direction in a few minutes: Message us on WhatsApp.
What to check before you book
For these particular dates, a few questions are worth more than any online review. Ask them before you pay.
- Who lets you in at 3am: three nights in a row. Accommodation with no one there at night is a problem, not a detail.
- Where do you park, and how far away: in the medina, cars stay outside the ramparts. Ask how many metres you will have to walk, at night, with your belongings.
- What time the cleaning is done: when you go to bed at 4am, cleaning at 9am is bad news.
- Is breakfast served late: same logic, over five days.
- Are outside visitors allowed: during the festival, many places tighten their rules and check IDs in the evening. If you plan to have people over, ask beforehand, not at the door.
- Is late check-in possible: Wednesday flights sometimes arrive in the evening, and the OFF starts that same day.
Formalities, money, tourist tax
Entering Morocco
No visa is required for a tourist stay of up to 90 days for French, British and American nationals.
- France: passport required, valid for the whole length of your stay. A national identity card is not enough. The authorities may ask for a return ticket and proof of sufficient funds. Source: France Diplomatie.
- United Kingdom: passport valid for at least 3 months after your date of arrival. Source: FCDO.
- United States: passport valid for at least 6 months, with one blank page. Source: US Department of State.
Validity requirements differ from country to country. The safest course is to travel with a passport valid for at least six months.
The dirham
Importing and exporting dirhams is prohibited, with an allowance of 2,000 dirhams per traveller, on entry and on departure. Source: Office des Changes.
In practice: change money once you are there, and do not leave with a wad of dirhams.
On departure, non-resident foreign travellers can change their dirhams back on presentation of the original exchange receipt, up to a limit of 20,000 dirhams, or 2,000 dirhams per passport at banks in airports, simply by showing their boarding pass. Source: Instruction Générale des Opérations de Change 2026, article 34.
Declaring currency on entry: this is compulsory from the equivalent of 100,000 dirhams, and optional below that. Source: Office des Changes. Elsewhere you will find a threshold of 15,000 dirhams, notably in the US Department of State’s country page: the threshold set by the competent Moroccan authority is the one that counts.
Tourist tax
It exists and applies to your accommodation. Law 47-06 on local authority taxation sets legal ranges, per person and per night, which each municipality then fixes precisely:
- Guesthouses, luxury hotels: 15 to 30 DH
- 5-star hotels, private clubs: 10 to 25 DH
- 4-star hotels, holiday villages: 5 to 10 DH
- 3-star hotels, tourist residences: 3 to 7 DH
- 1- and 2-star hotels, gîtes, motels: 2 to 5 DH
Children under 12 are exempt. The exact amount charged in Essaouira is not published online: it appears on your bill.
Health, emergencies, safety
Emergency numbers
- Police emergency, in town: 19
- Royal Gendarmerie, outside built-up areas: 177
- Civil protection, fire brigade, ambulance: 15
- SAMU (emergency medical service): 141
Sources: French Embassy in Morocco and France Diplomatie, consistent with the ‘911 Abroad’ page of the US Department of State.
The French Embassy also lists 112 as a police number that can be reached in Morocco.
An honest caveat: the British Foreign Office publishes different numbers, 150 for the fire brigade and ambulance and 190 for the police. We were unable to access ANRT’s official numbering plan to settle the matter. In an emergency, try 19 and 15 first, and 112 if you are calling from a foreign mobile.
Other useful numbers published by the French Embassy: SOS Médecin +212 522 20 20 20, poison control centre +212 801 00 01 80.
Medical care in Essaouira
Clinique Internationale de Mogador, avenue Mohamed V, Essaouira. Telephone 05 24 47 80 80. Emergency department open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 166 inpatient beds. A private facility belonging to the Akdital group, opened in 2024. Source: the clinic’s official website.
Hôpital Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah, Essaouira’s public hospital, avenue de l’Hôpital. The hospital’s name is confirmed on a Ministry of Health domain, ispits.sante.gov.ma, which hosts its training institute there. The number 05 24 47 50 47 is widely published locally, but we have not been able to confirm it on a ministry source: in an emergency, dial 15, and do not waste time calling a reception number.
The British Foreign Office notes that ‘public healthcare facilities in Morocco offer limited care; private clinics exist and operate to a higher standard’. Source: FCDO.
France Diplomatie warns that facilities ‘may require full payment of fees before the patient is discharged’. Insurance covering medical costs and repatriation is strongly recommended, and this is particularly true for a festival trip.
Duty pharmacies. In Morocco, the duty rota for pharmacies is set by the provincial governor, on the recommendation of the regional council of the order of pharmacists: this is article 111 of Law 17-04 on the code of medicines and pharmacy. There is therefore no national list available online. The list of duty pharmacies in Essaouira is displayed in the windows of the town’s pharmacies. If you cannot find it, message us: we know which ones are open.
Safety
No specific advice concerns Essaouira or the Marrakech-Safi region.
- France maintains a general heightened vigilance and formally advises against the border areas with Algeria and Mauritania, which does not concern Essaouira.
- The United Kingdom advises against no region of Morocco and warns of pickpocketing and bag snatching, including from two-wheelers.
- The United States has rated Morocco at Level 2, ‘Exercise increased caution’, since 21 April 2025, without singling out any particular region.

Weather, sea and wind: where to find the information
We do not publish average temperatures, wind speeds or sea temperatures for October in Essaouira, and we owe you an explanation. Morocco’s Direction Générale de la Météorologie publishes its 1991-2020 climate normals only as annual national maps, with no monthly data by station, and Essaouira does not appear in the World Meteorological Organization’s database either. All the monthly figures you will find online come from private websites or models, not from an official source.
For forecasts as your stay approaches, go directly to maroc-meteo.
What can safely be said: Essaouira is a windy town, which is what makes it a year-round water sports destination, and the evenings are cool even in early autumn. Bring a jacket for the nights, including for the festival. A night on the Atlantic coast is nothing like a night in Marrakech.
Tides. Official tide times are published in the ‘Annuaire des marées des ports du Maroc’ (tide tables for Moroccan ports) by the Royal Moroccan Navy’s Hydrography, Oceanography and Cartography Division, which runs an observatory in Essaouira. The dhocmr.ma website was not accessible at the time of writing.
Your stay around the festival
Calendar and special days
No Moroccan public holiday falls between 28 September and 8 October 2026. We checked this against the official list of public holidays published by the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform. Shops, banks and government offices operate as normal. Public administrations are open Monday to Friday, from 8.30am to 4.30pm.
The daytime, when you went to bed at 4am
MOGA IN starts at 2pm. So you have your mornings and the early afternoon, and you will probably spend them recovering. The best Essaouira has to offer in that state:
- The medina and the ramparts, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, best explored slowly.
- The fishing port and its blue boats, in late morning when the boats come in.
- The beach, vast, a few minutes’ walk from the centre.
- The wind, which makes Essaouira one of the country’s great surf, kitesurf and windsurf spots.
- Diabat and the dunes, on horseback, by camel or by quad bike, a stone’s throw from the festival site.

Eating, and above all eating late
We deliberately publish no list of places open at night, and we would rather explain why than give you three names that will turn out to be wrong.
Essaouira is not Marrakech. It is a small town, and festival week is the busiest of the year: accommodation is full, so are the tables, and many establishments change their hours for the occasion without publishing them anywhere. A list of addresses written at the end of August and read on 3 October at two in the morning would send you to closed doors.
What is structural, on the other hand, and what you can plan for right now:
- MOGA IN starts at 2pm, and you cannot leave and come back. This is the decisive point: you will not be popping back to town for dinner between two sets. Have a proper meal before you leave, in the middle of the day. Do not head to Diabat on an empty stomach and count on the night.
- Book your tables in advance, starting now for the evenings of 30 September and 1 October, when you will be in town. During this week, turning up without a reservation often means not having dinner.
- After 1am, the choice shrinks considerably. Bring something to keep you going, and do not count on a last-minute opening.
To find out what is actually open that same evening, message us. We are on the ground all week, we call for you, and we answer even at two in the morning. It is free and you do not need to be a client. Message us on WhatsApp.
Staying a few more days
The festival ends on Sunday 4 October. Many festival-goers leave on the Monday, and regret it. Early October is one of the best times of year in Essaouira: the town empties, the light is low and golden, prices come down again, and the ocean is still swimmable.
If you are thinking of extending your stay, now is the time to decide: availability in town is very tight during the festival, but it opens up from 5 October.
Extend your stay with us. Our villas and flats become available from 5 October, and we organise the rest of your stay: transfers, private chef, hammam, horse riding, quad biking. Message us, or first take a look at the available accommodation. Message us on WhatsApp.
What we have not been able to verify
This guide states nothing it cannot source. In the interests of honesty, here is what we have not found in an official source, and will therefore not make up:
- The exact venues of MOGA OFF 2026. Only ‘several venues’ has been announced.
- The MOGA OFF line-up and the set times for MOGA IN artists.
- Day-by-day hours for MOGA IN, beyond the overall 2pm to 3am slot.
- The site rules: items allowed or prohibited, cameras, bottles, cloakroom, camping. The organisers publish nothing. What we say about payment, no re-entry and entry conditions comes from our observations at previous editions, not from an official source, and may therefore change. For a definitive answer, write to contact@mogafestival.com.
- The prices of the official travel partner’s packages and the names of the partner hotels.
- CTM and Supratours coach fares and timetables, available only in their booking engines.
- Official taxi fares in Essaouira. There is no national tariff and the provincial order is not published online.
- The public hospital’s reception number, widely published locally but not confirmed on a ministry source. The hospital’s name and address, however, are confirmed.
- Monthly climate normals and the sea temperature.
- The exact amount of the tourist tax in Essaouira.
If you notice that any information in this guide has become wrong, write to us and we will correct it.
Frequently asked questions
Where should you stay during MOGA Festival in Essaouira?
There are three possible areas: the medina, 5.6 km from the site, where MOGA OFF takes place; Diabat, where the site itself is; and Ghazoua, 4.5 km away, the area closest to the festival after Diabat. The deciding factor is not distance but the 3am journey home, as no shuttle has been announced.
How far is the MOGA site from Essaouira?
5.6 km from the medina, about 9 minutes along the P2201 coast road, which crosses the bridge over the Oued Ksob. The road is surfaced and fine to drive at night. Allow up to 30 minutes when the festival lets out and several thousand people leave at once.
How many nights should you book for MOGA 2026?
Five nights for the full festival, from Wednesday 30 September to Monday 5 October: MOGA OFF takes over the town on 30 September and 1 October, and MOGA IN runs on 2, 3 and 4 October in Diabat, each night until 3am. Three nights are enough for the ticketed part alone.
Is there a shuttle between Essaouira and the MOGA site?
No shuttle has been announced in the official sources consulted on 29 August 2026: the festival website, the ticketing page, the seven official resellers and the travel partner. The only transport officially offered is a return airport transfer included in the packages from the travel partner FSTVL, not a shuttle to the site.
How do you get back from MOGA at 3am?
By your own vehicle, a private driver booked in advance, or a taxi. Taxis become scarce at the roundabout by the exit: walk 200 to 300 metres up the road before looking for one. The road is not continuously lit and is not one to walk. This is the question to settle before you buy your ticket, not once you are there.
Is it better to stay in the medina or near the MOGA site?
In the medina if you want the town, the restaurants and MOGA OFF on foot, accepting that you will depend on a taxi for the three MOGA IN nights. Near the site, in Diabat or Ghazoua, if the ticketed part is your priority: the night-time journey drops to a few minutes, but nothing is within walking distance any more.
How far is Essaouira airport from the MOGA site?
12.2 km, about 14 minutes via the N1, between Essaouira-Mogador airport and the Hôtel Le Golf d’Essaouira & Spa in Diabat. There is no public transport between the airport and Diabat: your transfer must be arranged before you arrive.
Are MOGA OFF and MOGA IN in the same place?
No, and that is what makes choosing accommodation tricky. MOGA OFF is free and takes place at several venues in Essaouira on 30 September and 1 October. MOGA IN is ticketed and takes place at the Hôtel Le Golf d’Essaouira & Spa, Domaine Mogador, in Diabat, on 2, 3 and 4 October, from 2pm to 3am.

Who writes this guide
Mogador Conciergerie is a private concierge service based in Essaouira, 12 rue Chenguit, Lot Skkala. We manage villas and flats in Essaouira and Marrakech, and we organise tailor-made stays: transfers, drivers, private chefs, activities, bookings.
We are not partners of the festival. We wrote this guide because nobody else had, and because every year we see travellers complicate a stay that ought to be simple.
During festival week, from 29 September to 5 October, our WhatsApp answers everyone, client or not. A fully booked restaurant, a driver, a pharmacy, some advice: write to us and we will reply.
